School Committee · Meeting of July 16, 2026
Dedham's School Committee reviewed a wide slate of elementary and high school facility options and opened a debate over public engagement ahead of a planned September 29 decision. Rennie Center lead Grace and Arrow Street Architects presented configurations addressing the aging Green Lodge, Oakdale and Riverdale elementary schools, built from a survey of 762 residents in which 91 percent said investment in buildings was needed and 44 percent said their child's learning had been disrupted by building issues. Dr. Kelly pressed consultants on operational cost savings, calling per-pupil spending "the number one driver" of town costs.
Vice Chair Josh Langmead proposed a September timeline including a community forum, but withdrew a motion committing the committee to that forum after Mr. Mahalka argued, "We paid Rennie to do that for us," saying the committee lacked new cost data to share with residents. The committee voted 7-0 to adjourn after roughly two and a half hours.
