School Committee · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Dedham School Committee heard the Rennie Center narrow 10 school facility options down to three recommendations. Rennie Center Senior Manager of Academics Grace Wong and Deputy Director Laura Snelli told the committee Dedham's per-pupil spending, roughly $25,000 annually, is the highest among 13 comparison districts, and that Riverdale, Green Lodge, Oakdale and Dedham High School all rated "poor" on a facilities-condition index. More than 90 percent of 760 survey respondents said Dedham should invest in school buildings now, while only 17 percent said current facilities support learning well.

Rennie recommended consolidating the district's elementary schools, calling the status quo "just not sustainable." District official Dr. Kelly said operational savings would come mainly from "personnel efficiencies," not supplies, over a six-to-15-year window. The committee separately voted 5-0 to accept a 100-backpack donation from St. John of Damascus Orthodox Church and approved minutes from June 16 and July 16.
