School Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026

DEDHAM — The Dedham School Committee heard that special education identification has climbed above 24 percent of students, called "exceptionally high" by the presenter of the district's annual student services report. Superintendent Murphy told members MCAS results were "some of the lowest that we've ever had in both ELA and math," though Oakdale Elementary earned a state "school of recognition" distinction. The committee closed the books on fiscal 2026 with an $838,000 surplus, about 1.37 percent of the operating budget, to revert to the town.

Members unanimously approved the eighth grade's 2027 Washington, D.C. trip for May 26-28, after hearing last year's $1,325 per-student cost will rise due to higher airfare and hotel prices. The committee also approved August 13 minutes 6-0 with two abstentions.
