Subcommittee sets four-step plan for Sept. 29 vote

School Committee · Meeting of September 3, 2026

DEDHAM — The Dedham School Committee's Ed Model Subcommittee planned a four-step process for narrowing 10 school facilities options to three at the September 29 meeting. Members debated whether to vote on preferred options as one package or individually, with one member, Chris, warning a package vote risked forcing members to "support the whole" even when they "disagree with parts of it." Dr. Kelly proposed grounding the discussion in criteria rather than opinion, saying it would make deliberation "more productive," while Superintendent Murphy cautioned against using a three-small-school renovation option as a cost "baseline" for fear it implied educational endorsement. The three options already recommended by the Rennie Center were identified by the codes B3, B5 and D9.

The subcommittee's only formal vote, on adjournment, passed 3-0 by roll call.
