Dedham's Board of Health approved a grinder variance and moved toward a kratom ban. The board unanimously approved a garbage grinder variance for Meso Authentic Mediterranean Kitchen at 551 High Street after owner George Panagabalos described sealed-container food scrap pickup three times weekly. Members then agreed to pursue a regulation prohibiting all kratom sales, rather than synthetic only, citing the product as "understudied and underregulated." A draft is expected in February, followed by a public hearing.
The department also reported 109 confirmed flu cases from September 1 to January 7, versus 43 a year earlier.
