Board of Health · Meeting of October 20, 2026

Dedham's Board of Health began drafting a full tobacco regulation overhaul and voted to add its director to the department's shared email inbox. Health Director Sam Menard told the board Town Counsel recommended rewriting the entire tobacco code rather than adding a standalone nicotine-free generation rule, to close a loophole letting companies transfer permits between locations and to possibly cap nicotine levels in pouch products popular with kids. Vice Chair Emma Reidy asked that sections be votable separately "so that it's not an all-or-nothing type of recommendation." The board tentatively set hearings for December 15 and January 12.

Separately, newly promoted DOSA Director Larissa Medeiros reported the department's ride-assistance program hit 250 rides in a single month, now costing roughly $10,000 monthly, prompting a push for a RISE grant and Commission on Disability funding.
