DEDHAM — The Dedham Planning Board closed a hearing on a proposed data center ban and agreed to pursue a moratorium instead. Proponents Janet Holmes and Elizabeth Doris Gustin backed converting their own Article 8 ban into an 18-month pause after member James F. McGrail argued Dedham "isn't smart enough to be first" with an outright prohibition. Vice Chair Jessica Porter proposed the substitute-motion approach, and Town Moderator Liz O'Donnell confirmed a moratorium amendment would stay within the article's scope.
The board scheduled an October 20 vote at 10:30 a.m. on final language. Separately, the board unanimously denied an unresponsive applicant's three-lot subdivision at 1133 High Street without prejudice and approved, 3-0, a minor site plan change relocating a dumpster at 80 Bridge Street.
