Planning Board Backs 12-Month Data Center Moratorium

Dedham Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend a 12-month data center moratorium to Fall Town Meeting. Board member James F. McGrail, Esq., successfully pushed to move the expiration date from December 31, 2027, to November 30, 2027, to avoid missing a Town Meeting cycle. Staff member Jeremy Rosenberger told the board roughly 34 Massachusetts communities already have data center bans or moratoriums in place.

Proponent Janet Holmes said "the AG office is good with" the 12-month term used elsewhere, while resident Norman Vigil called the data-center fear "a distraction" from other planning work. The board also plans to interview 22 residents who requested seats on a new data center study committee at its October 28 meeting, and separately approved minutes 4-0 with new member Thomas Ryan, Esq., abstaining.
